My Very First Lap Size Quilt Finished and Gifted

Well I had to post a finishe picture of my very FIRST lap size quilt. It was a lot more work than I expecting hand stitching the binding. I think next time I am going to try machine quilting it. But overall I am very happy with this quilt!!
I liked it so much that I really didn't want to give it away. But I knew it was going to a good home, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law so I was very happy and excited to give it to them.
Here is a picture of them at our Christmas exchange and I think they look happy with their new quilt. Don't you?!!

It's coming along!!

As you can see I almost have the top put together!! I still need to put on the outside rows and columns, but I am so excited. Yesterday I made my husband go with me to the fabric store to pick out the red that goes in between. He loved it (just kidding) but he was a very good sport and I appreciated his help. Although he didn't like or choose this red. But I think it was a good choice.

So the debate how is if I should make the outside rows and columns thicker or not. Or if I should just make the top and bottom thicker and keep the sides the same thickness. I will mull it over today and get my husbands opinion tonight and keep going and going and going.

I have just realized that this is my first lap size, adult quilt. It is a lot bigger and nerve racking to make than the little baby blankets I make. But I am enjoying choosing the fabrics and seeing it come together. I want it to be perfect. Maybe I am too much of a perfectionist while sewing, but I think that is a good thing, don't you?!!!

Time to get to Work

Okay, so Christmas is what, less than 40 days away. Ahhhh. So I am finally starting my first Christmas present. I figure I need to get as many project done before Thanksgiving because after that it is all downhill. I am known to be quite a procrastinator. I have to either do it now and get it done or it will be a Christmas quilt for next year.

So I have had the fabric for a while and finally cut it tonight. Now I need to play with the lay out. I am making what my book calls a San Francisco Summer Quilt. I am sure I will hem and haw about the lay out for a while, but my goal is to sew all the strips together tonight or tomorrow.

I am going to try to blog about this quilt. I keep saying I want to blog and then never do. Soooo this is my big attempt......

Where did September Go?

I can't believe this month is almost over. Where did it go?!! The kids are back in school, YEAH! And I can finally get back to sewing. It has been nice to have a little break from sewing, but I am really starting to miss it now. I have sold several baby blankets and really need to make some more to post on etsy. I have cut the fabric for 4 right now and have one more to cute before I start making them.

But first I am off to Dance Class with my little ballerina.

Well, my good news of the day is that I won!! This is my first giveaway I have ever one and it is a good one. Well, my son will love it. I won the Leapster Digging for Dinosaurs game at Mad Boastings of a Cheapskate Mom.

The best Binding Tip I have seen

I was just searching everyone's blogs and just saw this tip from Ankas Treasures. You have to check it out by clicking here. There are no goofy angles to figure out. It is so simple. She calls it her continuous binding technique.

Here is a little peak, but for full instructions I would check out her blog.

And her finished product looks like this. You can't even see the seam, but it is there in the middle. Amazing.

New Modern Elephant Rag Quilt

So I recently got a request for a custom order. She actually checked my feedback and saw the quilt she loved. She convo me and I am making it right now!! I love when people convo me for special orders. I feel like that quilt is extra special or something since I am making it just for them. He is a little sneak peak of the quilt so far. I am hoping to remember to get a good picture of it before I ship it. This is the last one I can make for a while because I can't seem to find dark gray flannel anymore. Crazy, huh?!?! Maybe the color will come back around this fall. At least I hope so because this rag quilt is really cute.

I love this quilt and wish that I made it. I found this beautiful quilt here on Red Pepper Quilts blog spot. I have to say I don't think my scraps would ever come together to make something this good looking. I guess a girl can still dream. Though I might need to buy this one in the mean time....

A Sneak Peek...

Here is a little sneak peak of two of the three new purses I have been working on. They are almost complete, one little step left and then I will be posting them on etsy. They are Amy Butler Sling Bag, which I love and have one myself, but it is a little old. I've used it for over a year, so it is about time for a new one. I love these new bags and I want one of them. I can't decide between three of them which one I should make for myself. One is made from Michael Miller fabric and the other one is from Amy Butler's Collection.

Well, I have finally gotten around to listing my new blankets and some lovies. I have also been trying to update some pictures that didn't look too hot. Click here to go straight to my etsy shop. I am trying a new technique when I take my pictures so we will see how it turns out. I am sure I will have to try many more times until I perfect it. lol

This is HILARIOUS!!

I just came across this site, http://etsywtf.com/, and thought it was hilarious. If any of my items ever appear on here please let me know and I will remove my entire shop!!!

Some of the items and comments are for adults, so if your kiddos are near by watch out.

A little behind schedule, but finally done

Well, I didn't quite get everything done by Sunday like I hoped, but I am now done. Really I had finished two by Sunday and then got busy with the kids and didn't finish the last one until tonight. I am hoping within the next two days to get some good pictures and to post my quilts and lovies on etsy.

On to the next project. Humm, should I finish a couple of lovies with satin lining or start on some new purses.......I'll let you know.

Getting some quilts done

Well I finally feel like I am getting some work done. I tend to do my quilts in phases so that I can do several at a time. I put all the tops together Monday and Tuesday and last night and today I pieced them together.
I did three quilts and 3 loveys. Now they are definately not finished, but almost at this point!!! I still have one more top to finish and put together with the bottom and then I will quilt them all at one time. My goal is to have all this completely finished and posted on etsy by the end of the weekend. So let's see if I can do it!

Welcome

Hi. I opened my etsy shop just under a year ago, when I finally got my own sewing machine, and thought it might be fun to blog about my projects for everyone to see and read. My etsy shop address is http://www.inspirationalbaby.etsy.com/.

I am the first to admit that sewing has become my obsession. I love going to fabric stores and picking out fabrics for certain projects and sometimes I just pick up fabric because I love it and them I have to figure out what to do with it. But as I have learned you have to get it before it is gone because the cute fabric goes fast and my local store doesn't buy more, so once it is gone it is gone.

Right now I am working on a couple of minky style baby blankets, I have the tops done and so my next step is to put all the layers together and quilt it. I know I will take a picture soon to show and tell. But that is my new project.....to figure out how to take the perfect picture of my things. I love my blankets and loveys, but I don't think my pictures show how cute and nice they actually are. So I searched the internet and I guess I need a white box...now the tricky part will be getting my husband to help construct it. :)
